Marage. Traditional soap.

Soap is brewed.
Soap boiled.
Finished products.

Iranian traditional soap

The manufacture of natural soap is an ancient art that has been developed in Iran for centuries, having survived to this day. The center of this art is the ancient city of Marage, in Ostan (province) East Azerbaijan. Nowadays, the manufacture of traditional soap is listed in the cultural heritage list of Iran.
And although many modern varieties of soap are produced in Iran in abundance, soap products from Maragha can be found in any locality of Iran. Its popularity is growing, both among the Iranians themselves and among the guests of the country.

For the preparation of traditional soap in Marag use caustic soda and fat tail (tail) fat of the local breed of sheep. And only – without any other chemistry. The process of mixing and boiling soap itself takes at least nine hours. Then the mixture cools and hardens, it is cut into pieces, convenient for use in everyday life.

Soap bars weighing approximately 160 grams are being marketed. Manufacturers and sellers do not bother to pack each piece – why? – people usually buy several pieces, which they will carry in a separate package. And in the store, it is waiting for the buyer in the bag or on the shelf. Like this:

And about the price. In September last year, in Mashhad, we bought traditional soap for 20.000 reais. That is, 13 euro cents per piece.
And we will understand a small plot of Iranian television from the Central Province without translation …
